GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This companion guide to our existing ‘Herriot Country’
This publication offers a pictorial experience and journey across the historic and magnificently beautiful region made more famous by James Herriot and the outstanding ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ television series produced by the BBC.
This TV series was based on the books of Yorkshire vet, Alf Wight, writing under the pen-name of James Herriot. Within this guide we have included some details of Alf’s life and an extremely colourful photographic tour around the region and locations in which he lived and worked.
We have endeavoured to feature specific places that were closely associated with Alf, his family and colleagues, as well as settings made famous in the BBC TV series and in the two feature films that were produced. Our photoguide therefore covers a broad swath of landscape from Reeth in Swaledale, Wensleydale and Coverdale in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, to Thirsk and the Hambleton Hills, the North York Moors National Park and Yorkshire’s Heritage Coastline. We hope you enjoy this lovely journey following in James Herriot’s footsteps.
