GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Much research material relating to Captain Cook is densely factual,  so we have extracted the human story with the aim of presenting an understanding of James Cook, both as a man and in the context of the age in which he lived.

It was the bi-centenary of British settlement in Australia in 1988 that prompted the original publication of this guidebook, but it was the recent  acclaimed dramatisation of ‘The Incredible Journey of Mary Bryant’, seen on ITV during 2006, that perhaps prompted our colour revision of this informative publication. This successful drama was based on a true story of the first Australian settlement, for which Cook’s first voyage of exploration paved the way, and we have therefore concentrated on the links between the two countries concerned.

So, whilst the book contains a broad overview of the Cook story, the main focus rests not only on his early life in Cleveland and Whitby, where he was born, brought up and learned his trade, but also upon his First Voyage during which he charted the East Coast of Australia.

Within its pages is a priceless treasure chest of information that will provide a balanced and personal presentation of the life and achievements of Captain James Cook.... a most remarkable story identifying a most magnificent journey from the humblest of beginnings to achieve the accolade of becoming the world's greatest navigator, explorer and seaman.

Packed full of information and excellent value for money!
